Is not nice day today...

Looked ok when I woke up this morning, but by the time I got out of the shower, was all horrible and rainy

I got wet on the way to work as I couldn't be bothered to put my umbrella up for the two minute stretch between my flat and the station and also I forgot my hat.

AND I forgot (couldn't be bothered) to do any washing last night, so have to wear clothes I don't really like (though happily teamed with shiny new underwear, which I did, eventually, manage to buy...

We've just come back from the Real Food Festival at Earls Court...

It was ace

I felt like we'd bought lots of really good things (we certainly spent a lot of money), but, looking at it now, it seems more like we just bought an awful lot of chilli sauce - in many and varied jars/bottles!

Oh - and a very sharp knife

My lovely new Wii Fit came yesterday...

It is great - I played on it loads today

Can't wait for some more games to come that use Wii board!

Hmm...
Not sure...
I looooove the South Park Movie - it is splendiforous in many ways and gets better almost every time I see it
In fact - may watch tonight when I get home...

Not sure how I feel about movie comedies generally - I often really enjoy them at the time, but they don't always stick in my mind for long afterwards...

Ooh - I like Withnail and I, though - that's pretty funny...

2. What is your favourite comedy on TV?

Hmm...
I am particularly partial to Green Wing - was v sad when it ended.
Also Black Books (mmmm.... Dylan Moran).
And Come Dine With Me often reduces me to fits of helpless laughter - not sure whether it's exactly a comedy though...

Ooh - and Red Dwarf - haven't seen for a while but can only assume that I would still love it...

3. Who is your best Comedy actor/actress?

Dunno really...
People who are good at it, I guess - funny, y'know?

4. If you could write a comedy what would it be about?

Not sure.
I do quite a lot of opera - that's pretty comic

5. What is the Funniest thing you have ever seen be it in person or on a TV show or film?

Let me think (am not very good at this whole comedy thing - please don't think that I'm totally humourless....)

I remember being out (sailing, I think) once with my cousin, who managed to fall in the water in a way that appeared that he just forgot he was on a boat and simply stepped off the side...
It doesn't sound that great now, but was side-splittingly hilarious at the time...

Someone else on my team (there are only three of us altogether) left yesterday, with a week's notice.

The team sitting opposite me have helpfully lent me one of their contractors for the next month or two until we can sort out a (hopefully) permanent appointment, which is really good and means that I might even be allowed to go on holiday in May after all, but means that my life at the moment (and for the next couple of weeks) is basically taken over with training.
Can't really complain, as is ultimately a good thing, but had only just got over training the last new person - was just starting to get caught up with all the things I'm really supposed to be doing, but it does mean I have an awful lot of things to do!
Guess I need to be prepared for a few long days...

...was pretty good.

I had a lovely day off on Friday (possibly the last for a while) which was nice - I went to Ikea (hurrah - Ikea!) and bought some new wine racks, a shelf for the bathroom and various other fun things, I had a singing lesson (the first for a few weeks) which was good, although expensive as I cancelled the last one (due to loss of voice) at the last minute and consequently had to pay twice, and I had the dress rehearsal for my concert, which was fairly painless...

On Sat I did nothing at all for a pretty long time, then took LBF to Majestic to buy a case of wine to fill up the new racks.
I had a concert in the evening which was ok - I sang fairly well, although did screw up in one piece (not v dramatically) and most other people were also pretty good, then went for tasty (though strangely posh) curry with opera people, LBF and other hangers on...

On Sunday I had a happy farmers market based morning (soooooo many tasty things) before buying (yet another) case of wine from a cool little shop where we went to taste wines in the afternoon and then went out to one of my totally favorite restaurants in the evening (caribbean and delicious) with a selection of parents and family types...

So was busy weekend - spent outrageous amount of money, but had fun and are now proud owners of v large number of bottles of wine...

Didn't go underwear shopping though :-(

I'm supposed to be on holiday (or, at least, off work) for a week in May and now it looks like I might not be able to take the time after all...
Am very sad

Someone in my team is leaving next week - it's not *completely* out of the blue or anything, but he only gave the requisite week's notice...
Even if we manage to recruit someone instantly (which isn't very likely), they'll probably need to give month's notice so won't be starting till mid-May and I'm supposed to be on holiday from 12-16...
Am screwed...

And had just booked trains and hotel for lovely mini-break also - was only from the Sunday to the Tuesday and could probably still cancel the hotel, but will lose out on the train tickets...

And it's quite hard to cancel when boss and colleagues are telling me not to worry, it will be ok, even though common sense tells me that that's ridiculous.

Am a bit sleepy today...

I went to bed toooo late last night and then LBF didn't sleep very well (or at all, in fact) - consequently I also didn't sleep that well and am sleeeeeepy now...
Am sure he feels a lot worse than me though - poor boy!
When I got up at 7ish this morning, he'd abandoned the idea of bedditude completely and was up working...

I also feel a bit like I might be getting a cold (again...)
I've had a niggling feeling about it for a few days now, whihc I have been judiciously trying to ignore as I have a concert on Saturday, and I've only just got my voice back from the last sore throat incident (which was weird and lasted for weeks).
I've been working quite hard for the last week at getting myself back up to pre voice loss standard, but I'm still sounding fairly dodgy, and coldiness would probably not help...
I'd like to be good in this concert as I'm singing one piece that suits me really well and if it goes well, I'll hopefully get given similar things in future, so hopefully any illnesses will hold off till Sunday!

I realise this all sounds a bit moany...
I don't actually feel that moany - I quite like Wednesdays - don't want to give anyone the impression that things are bad, or even that I'm a complaining bitch ;-)

1. What was the last book you read?

Animal's People by Indra Sinha.
I finished it yesterday and really enjoyed it.

2: What are you reading now?

Am re-reading Riddley Walker, though currently it's in the bathroom, so am only reading it in the bath...
Given the tendency of the water to get uncomfortably cold teamed with the fact that it's by no means easy reading, it might take some time at this rate.
May have to move it to the bedroom...

3. What one book do you wish you had written?

Hmm... That's not really something I've ever thought about. Think I'm more of a reader than a writer (and happy that way)...
I guess either something like Harry Potter (for all the lovely money) or possibly something more like Ulysses (because it's really good).

4. Who is your favourite author?

Not sure really.
I used to be completely indiscriminate about reading - I would read absolutely anything and everything (don't get me wrong - I was able to distinguish between good bad - but I read them all anyway).
However, since I have an (increasingly) full time job, I have less time to read and am becoming more discerning...
Not sure whether I really have a favorite though.
I have a (slightly guilty) weakness for Bill Bryson if I want something light and entertaining (I've read it a million times, but his Notes From a Big Country still makes me laugh out loud).
At the moment, I am pretty keen on Burgess and Capote but there are lots of other things I love as well - think maybe I don't really have a favourite...

5. I recommend you read...?

A Clockwork Orange!
One of my all time favourite books.
I tend to find that a lot of people have seen the film (also recommended)but was surprised at how many have never read the book.
It's a really beautiful example of writing in an essentially made up language - it's so well done that you barely notice that that's what you're reading (unlike, say Finnegan's Wake - also a great book, but a much more challenging read).
Go out and read it now!
