  • Lunch...

    For lunch today I had:

Tasty seafood salad and two quails' eggs, strawberries and a diet coke :)

    It was good!

And it was also cheap as I cleverly made (well, assembled anyway) it myself and brought it to work with me in a handy box...
I've done this every day this week!
Still don't have any money though - must stop spending it.

    I am also very tired.
I think this is unrelated - probably has more to do with the fact that I forgot to go to bed last night...

    Is weekend v v v soon though :)

I plan to have many BBQs

  • Ikea...

So I had a fairly nice time at Ikea...

Didn't find anything with rude name (LBF wouldn't let me look), but did take this picture:

Sadly though, the lovely bjarnum connectors that we went to get have been DISCONTINUED everywhere except in Sweden :(
Can't even find any on eBay...

Now we have a load of shelves that we can't put up...

  • Woohoo!

    I'm going to IKEA!!!!!

    :DD

  • Sleeeeeepy!

Must go have sleeps now so will be ready for exciting new day!

    G'night everyone!

    :zz:

  • Seaside...

Went to the beach on Sunday...

Had become bored with great rain, so drove over to Aldeburgh at lunchtime.

Sang some Sea Pictures on the beach in the great wind and rain - it seemed kind of appropriate ;) Must have looked completely insane, but fortunately most people were hiding from the weather indoors, so think it went pretty much unheard.

I guess Britten would have been more appropriate really, but couldn't think of anything at the time (actually, not sure I know much solo stuff, apart from Lucretia, which isn't very beachy).

Also walked to Thorpeness to see the House in the Clouds...
It's a fabulous place - will have to work out some way to persuade another 10 (or so) people that they want to holiday there with me so that I can stay there :)

  • I still has work....

...even though nearly everyone else has gone home...

Am cursing the bank holiday :'(

Which is sad, cause I had a nice (if slightly damp) time while it was actually happening.

  • Movie thingummyjig

    Stealed from NotBob

Nicked from a couple of people:

    1. Name a movie you have seen more than 10 times
    Hmmm - a difficult one...
Probably Star Wars - can't think of anything else.

    2. Name a movie you’ve seen multiple times in the theater
Don't think I've EVER done this.

    3. Name an actor who would make you more inclined to see a movie
Maybe someone like Al Pacino - though even he doesn't always make good film choices.

    4. Name an actor who would make you less likely to see a movie
    Ashton Kutcher

    5. Name a movie and do a quote from it
    Star Wars
'These are not the droids you're looking for...'

    6. Name a movie musical in which you know all of the lyrics to all of the songs
My Fair Lady, Westside Story (though I've never seen the whole movie), Sweeney Todd (all the songs, all the dialogue - everthing!) and, doubtless, many others.

    7. Name a movie you have been known to sing along with
Sweeney Todd - in the cinema (fairy quietly though)...
Is fortunate that there weren't many people there ;)

    8. Name a movie you would recommend everyone see
    A Clockwork Orange

    9. Name a movie you own
    The Godfather

    10. Name an actor who launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops.
Didn't Alan Rickman start out as a graphic designer or something?

    11. Have you ever seen a movie in a drive-in?
    No - though I wish I could.

    12. Ever made out in a movie?
Once or twice, possibly, though probably not a GOOD one.

    13. Name a movie you keep meaning to see but you just haven’t gotten around to yet.
    No Country for Old Men

    14. Ever walked out of a movie?
Only once - The Mangler at midnight at Lea Valley UCI - was v v poor.
Actually - would quite like to see it again now - just to see if it really was THAT bad...

    15. Name a movie that made you cry in the theater.
All good movies should make you cry ;)
I think Sweeney Todd was the last one probably, and I cried through lots of that, as I knew how it ended!

    16. Popcorn?
    Occasionally...
    I like it salty ;)

    17. How often do you go to the movies
Sometimes - probably not as often as monthly, but not far off...

    18. What’s the last movie you saw in the theater?
    In Bruges

    19. What’s your favorite/preferred genre of movie?
Hard to say - I love a good horror film and am easily seduced by Die Hard type action movies, but am not averse to GOOD comedies (of the non romantic kind) or decent dramas either... Basically, I just like films!

    20. What’s the first movie you remember seeing in the theater?
Embarassing - the My Little Ponies Movies - there were flutter ponies and the Smooze!

    21. What movie do you wish you had never seen?
    FIELD OF STUUUUUPID DREAMS!

    22. What is the weirdest movie you enjoyed?
I quite liked Crash (the Cronenberg one, I mean) - think that was pretty controversial at the time? Actually, most of his movies are pretty weird..

    23. What is the scariest movie you’ve seen?
Dunno - I like horror movies, but am not sure that they're really scary exactly...
I remember blagging my way into Interview With a Vampire with a group of friends when we were totally underage and then walking home through a cemetery - that was pretty frightening (in a giggling teenage girl kind of way...)

    24. What is the funniest film you have ever seen?
    That is a difficult question!
Will perhaps come back to you on it later!

  • Egg update

So we cooked the first of the eggs this morning!

Here it is happily boiling away (for a V long time - possibly even slightly too long...)
    Egg1

    Here it is after cooking:
    Egg2

Here it is after we hacked the top off (using breadknife, hammer and chisel):
    Egg4

And here we are, happily dipping our (giant) soldiers into it:
    Egg5

    It was good :)

Although, given that there are only three of us here, we may be eating it for some time!

  • Holiday time...

Am in Suffolk - drove down after tasty lunch with LBF.

Left him behind as he doesn't like the outside!

Is pretty sunny (still) but v v windy!

Forecast still not great for rest of weekend, but am prepared to remain optimistic for a little while...
Can always come home tomorrow instead of Monday if is really grim.

Hope everyone (except people in Germany) is having a nice long weekend!

  • Weeeeeeeeeeeeekkkend!

    It's the weekend :)

    And it's looooong...

Am v pleased, though already, a bit, not looking forward to next week when, not only do I have to do my own job and the job of my team member who left a few weeks ago and has not yet been (even temporarily) replced, but also the job of a colleague who is away at the beginning of the week.
On top of this, because Monday is a bank holiday, there is already twice as much to do on Tuesday as usual...
Still - is pretty far away right now, so am going take the sensible approach and pretend is not happening ;)

Am planning small trip to Suffolk tomorrow through to probably Monday, though the forecast is more than just slightly unfavourable.
Think will be nice anyway though, and have (possibly unrealistically) optimism about weather - they're always pessimistic about bank holidays, right?

Am thinking I might make tasty shortcakes to take with me, and possibly some strawberry muffins...

The most exciting thing, though, is that my EGGS have arrived!!!

Will take pictures soon so you can all see (and share in the joy), but suffice to say that they are utterly fabulous and I love them very very much.

Plan to take at least one of them away, and if there are enough people there, we can have it for breakfast - boiled with enormous soldiers to dip in it :D

Hope everyone else is also having nice beginning of weekend!

  • Eggcitement

    Eggs are coming today (hopefully)!!

    AND is almost bank holiday.

AAAAAANNNNND my ginger beer turned out really well :)

Ooh - AAAAAAANNNNNNND - I has choklit cake.

    All things are good!

  • Hoam...

    Am going to bed now.

  • Abortion bill amendment...

... to reduce the time limit has been defeated.

Wasn't even that close in the end.

    Will sleep better now :)

  • Big Eggo...

    Am v v v v v eggcited!

Have just ordered four ostrich eggs.

Am going to have fantastic egg party!

  • Today...

    ...has not started very well.

I got up bright and early (well, as early as I ever manage, anyway...)and leapt into the bath (shower too hot at the moment - must get something done about that!)
I happily scrubbed myself clean, leapt back out of the bath and started to put my contact lenses in...
While I was doing this, I felt a little bit odd, so I sat down to test my blood sugar levels, and by the time I'd got the little strip into the meter and found the spikey thing to make the blood, I could barely see any more, and definitely not stand up or anything...
Blood sugar v v v low - not good at all!
Managed to drag myself into the kitchen and find life-giving ribena and then sat around shivering and sweating for 20 minutes, before having breakfast-with-no-insulin and hurriedly flinging clothes on and running (as fast as little sugar deprived legs would carry me - which isn't very...) to station as v v late by that stage...
Then , to top all the general feelings of horribleness, my train took about three times as long as usual, so was really properly late for work by the time I arrived!

Still - am here now, and things going ok so far - feel pretty much human again (is weird how that happens - can feel like actually dying one minute and then be completely fine the next - whole blood-sugar thing is evidently quite sensitive...) and sweaty awfulness is fading ;)
Of course, danger now, is that, due to non-insulinity of breakfast, it all goes the other way and my levels get really high (more sweaty bad feelings), but I guess I'll deal with that when I get to it! Am armed with insulin and almond croissant in case of emergencies, so all things are good...

On the bright side, I bottled my ginger beer last night and it looks (and smells) totally great!
Have to leave it to bottle-ferment for a couple of days now (outside on balcony, as am little concerned about explosiveness) but will report back soon!

Hope everyone else is having nice day!

  • Monday

    It's Monday...

Am back at work after a lovely week of non-working.

Am surviving so far, but is not so easy - I didn't sleep v well last night, so am a bit tired, and everyone is asking me complicated questions which I don't know the answers to because I've been off for a week and have six million emails and queries to catch up on as well as sorting out the (limited - I don't want to seem ungrateful) mess that my worl has got into whilst being done by someone who is unfamiliar with it.

Still - things not all bad - am v excited about parcel of lovely kitchen goods (legal ones - LBF actually told me to get them) that should be arriving from Lakeland (mmm...) today and also looking forward to decanting the ginger beer that I made yesterday into bottles tonight (never tried making before, but judging by the fizzling noises from the bowl this morning, it could end up rather boozy, I fear)...

In other news - I have eaten tooooo much today!

    Hope everyone else is ok.

  • Gay Cowboys Eating Pudding

Am going to watch Brokeback Mountain on TV tonight, accompanied by pork steaks and Planeta Chardonnay...

Am quite excited - haven't seen it before...

EDIT - Is actually not going to be that easy to tear LBF away from Indiana Jones....
    What to do...

  • Sunday Goodness....

    Mmmmm....

    Today is all nice :)

Is lovely and sunny (though not too warm).

Had splendiferous BBQ last night with mini burgers (made mini burger buns - they turned out really well - am v happy) and a startling amount of booze, got up late today (I blame BBQness) and have just come back from exciting trip to Islington with LBF where we spent all my money in the world at the Farmers' Market (bought garlic, rhubarb, berries and other good things), indulged my passion for kitchenalia at Gill Wing (was very good though - only bought things that were absolutely necessary) and tasted and bought (well, LBF bought, but our money is all the same, right?) 'spensive wines from fabulous wine shop (which provides LBF's favourite Sunday pursuit)...

Am thinking about small lunch now (probably leftover BBQ) and perhaps tackling washing-up mountain...
Definitely planning to make ginger beer this afternoon too...
Perhaps after tasty life-giving G&T - is not too early, right?

Hope everyone else having good weekendity also!

  • New song...

Have just found a lovely Rachmaninov song in a collection of Mezzo songs that I'd previously been ignoring a bit (due to high concentration of Purcell and also Handel near beginning...)
    Must learn!
Though perhaps not now as neighbours might not love as much as I do (not screechy, though, so they might not mind too much)...

Also, have discovered a few nice arias that I previously wasn't really good enough for, but that now sond pretty nice - may also learn.

In other news, am making burger buns for tasty mini-burger BBQ tomorrow :)

  • One for Soy...

...though am sure you must have seen it...

  • Today

I have had tasty lunch salad, made (or at the very least assembled) by my own fair hand and carried all the way into work this morning and also purchased sandpaper and some quite meaningful looking masonry screws...

Oh - and some staples for my shiny new staple gun.

    Feel very virtuous :)

  • Air conditioning is broke...

    ....so am toooooooo hot!

Whay it only break on hottest day of year so far?

Is usually bloody freezing in here!

  • Weeeeeeeeeeekeennnnd!

    Hurrah!

    The weekend is here!

And it's so so loooonnnng :)

Am off to Suffolk with my dad to play varnishing and stuffs in the sunshine....

And tomorrow maybe I can go to B&Q - am very excited :D

Will possibly be needing one or two other things to do - suggestions are welcome!

Though also, must remember to make birthday cake for my dad - hmm..... not sure what kind to make - perhaps a tasty cheesecake?
    Not sure...

Hope everyone has lovely bank holiday!

  • Democracy - pah...

How can that idiot be the mayor of London?

    What's wrong with the electorate?

    I has a big sad :'(

  • Weekend...

    Want to go home....

    WAAAANT!

  • Consolation...

Was all depressed about the fact that I am patently the only person still at work and that they've screwed up and taken my lovely employee away from me, hence potentially invalidating my holiday (grr...) but am quite consoled by the fact that I just looked out of the window at the most beautiful sunset :-)

Off home soon - to vote!
Means I have to leave within the next hour, at least, as the polling stations shut at 10.
